Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence are not competing to co-star with Bradley Cooper in his upcoming movie Nightmare Alley, despite a made-up tabloid report. The article seems to have been concocted simply because both women have a friendship with the actor and have worked with him in the past. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.

It was announced earlier this month that Cooper is in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s remake of the 1947 film Nightmare Alley, which centers on a conman who teams up with a female psychiatrist to fleece people out of money through a mentalist act, until she turns the tables on him. The film’s female lead has yet to be cast, but according to the Globe, Lawrence and Gaga are both fighting for the role.

Of course, the actress and the singer both have history with Cooper on the big screen. Lawrence co-starred with the actor in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Serena and Joy, while Gaga starred opposite him in last year’s remake of A Star Is Born. “Once Bradley seals the deal, every actress in Hollywood will be fighting tooth and nail for the juicy role alongside him,” says the magazine’s supposed source, adding that Lawrence and Gaga are the top two choices and will be campaigning the hardest.

It should be noted, not a single Hollywood trade publication has reported any news about who might take the female lead in Nightmare Alley. Tabloids aren’t know to get major casting scoops, and that trend hasn’t been broken with this latest article from the Globe.

A source close to Cooper, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, tells Gossip Cop there’s “zero truth to anything out there at this stage” regarding casting for Nightmare Alley. Our trusted insider also tells us the idea that Gaga and Lawrence are fighting over the co-starring role is simply “insane.” The untrustworthy outlet is just trying its hand at some fantasy casting.

It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to debunk a story about Cooper and Gaga reuniting for another movie. Back in January, Gossip Cop called out the Globe’s sister publication, Star, for wrongly reporting that the pair would be co-starring in a Cleopatra biopic, in which the singer would portray the Egyptian queen and the actor would play her lover, Mark Antony. Neither star is attached to such a project.

Last year, Gossip Cop busted the Globe’s other sister outlet, In Touch, for falsely claiming Lawrence was angry at Cooper for casting Gaga in A Star Is Born instead of her. Lawrence, who’s admitted in interviews to having a terrible singing voice, actually praised the movie upon seeing it. The actress never believed she should have been cast in Gaga’s role. At this time, neither women has anything to do with Cooper’s upcoming film either.
