Dave Chappelle new Netflix special, The Closer, continues to make headlines.

Earlier this week (Oct. 5th), Dave Chappelle’s newest comedy special was released on Netflix. Since its premiere, the content of the stand-up special has garnered lots of conversations, garnering mixed reviews, praise and think pieces. One of the underlying topics of his special centers around his controversial remarks, specifically toward the trans community.

Along with some organizations calling for the special to be pulled, ‘Dear White People‘ show runner and writer Jaclyn Moore, who also identifies as a trans-woman, is now planning to boycotting the streaming platform over Dave Chappelle’s comments.

Announcing her decision on social media, she wrote:

“I love so many of the people I’ve worked with at Netflix. Brilliant people and executives who have been collaborative and fought for important art….But I’ve been thrown against walls because, “I’m not a ‘real’ woman.” I’ve had beer bottles thrown at me. So, @netflix, I’m done.”

She added,

“Taps a microphone. After the Chappelle special, I can’t do this anymore. I won’t work for @netflix again as long as they keep promoting and profiting from dangerous transphobic content.”

After her statement, fans of Dear White People, immediately took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Jaclyn Moore and her decision. See some reactions below.

Following her own backlash, Jaclyn Moore responded on Twitter saying,

“I was hired to write on Dear White People by Justin Simien before season one. After season 3 I was promoted by Justin to run the show with him for season 4. I was the show’s only white writer.”

Although Chappelle has not responded to Moore’s comments, the 48-years-old comedian does not seem concerned about being ‘canceled.’ During a recent performance at the Hollywood Bowl he said,

“If this is what being canceled is like, I love it!”

He later added:

“F**k Twitter. F**k NBC News, ABC News, all these stupid a** networks. I’m not talking to them. I’m talking to you. This is real life.”

What are your thoughts on Jaclyn Moore’s  decision? Tell us in the comments.
