Is Brad Pitt going to guest star on the Friends reunion alongside Jennifer Aniston? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop has learned the truth.
It was reported last month that a Friends reunion is in the works at HBO Max, but the details of the project are unknown. However, the Hollywood trades are reporting that the reunion will be an unscripted special featuring an interview with the cast. That hasn’t stopped New Idea from publishing a story with the headline, “Friends Script Leaked.”
According to the magazine, a script for the Friends reunion has been written, but every effort is being made to keep it under lock and key. A supposed source is quoted as saying, “Executives at HBO Max have made everyone sign water-tight confidentiality agreements which could see them being sued in excess of $ 5 million if they leak any details.” This same supposed source then goes on to leak the so-called “details.” This begs the question, who is this “insider” and why are they risking a $ 5 million lawsuit by spilling secrets to an Australian tabloid?
The anonymous tipster says the main cast members – Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc – will be joined A-listers who guest starred on the original series. “There have been lots of whispers that stars including George Clooney, Billy Crystal, Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis are all set to return.”
Also returning, according to the unknown source, is Pitt – who played a former high school classmate of Aniston’s character. The “source” continues, “There are also rumors Ross and Rachel will be on another break following a marital crisis, while it’s also been hinted that Monica and Chandler’s daughter will be played by Courteney’s real-life daughter, Coco.”
The so-called “insider” insists that none of the cast members know any of this information, as they won’t be given their scripts until a week before filming starts. “Even when they do receive a script, it will be given to them on custom-built iPads which keeps all files locked onto the tablet.” The insider also says there will be security checkpoints before reading the script, adding, “One producer joked it’s harder to see the script than to get into most countries.”
If any of that were true – how in the world could this “source” know the details of the top-secret script? Why would Pitt and those other A-listers sign on to a show if they’re not allowed to see the script? How exactly is Cox’s daughter appearing on the show without her mom knowing about it? The tabloid doesn’t seem to realize its fake narrative has gaping holes in it. This is one of the most nonsensical stories Gossip Cop has debunked in recent memory.
Every legitimate outlet that has covered the Friends reunion, including the Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline, have all noted that it won’t be a reboot in which the cast reprises their characters. The reunion special is expected to be a retrospective in which the cast and creators will share stories of working on the show. Gossip Cop has learned that Pitt, who briefly appeared on one episode of the sitcom while he was married to Aniston, isn’t involved in the project.
Back in February, Gossip Cop busted New Idea for falsely claiming Pitt and Aniston got married again at her 50th birthday party. They didn’t. This latest article doesn’t even mention any sort of romance between the two, which is somewhat astonishing considering how frequently it pushes that storyline. Here’s what also goes unmentioned: the claim that Aniston and Schwimmer are dating. We’re not encouraging the magazine to bring up something that’s untrue, but it did report that nonsense in October. The tabloid is as clueless about the Friends reunion as it is about Aniston’s personal life.
